On Wednesday September 25, 2024, at 9:57 a.m., Astoria Police Department and Oregon State Police responded to a report of two people down in the Office of Bayshore Apartments located at 1400 W. Marine Drive in Astoria. On arrival Officers located two individuals, a male and female, deceased in the office of the complex. The female died of gunshot wounds, and the male died from an apparent, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The female victim who was also the apartment manager is being identified as 51-year-old Denise Lynn Mathew of Astoria. Investigation revealed that Denise was killed by her husband, 57-year-old Scott Mathew of Astoria, who then took his own life.
