CITY OF ASTORIA BURNING REGULATIONS & PERMITS
Burn Permits shall be required and issued for:
Burn Barrels Fee: $50.00 for a 2-year permit
Recreational burning (campfire or cooking fire) $35.00 renewal fee
NO open burn piles are allowed within city limits
BURN BARRELS:
- Burn barrel must be in good condition
- Burn barrel must have ¼ inch mesh screen cover
- Burn barrel shall be located no less than 15 feet from any structure/combustibles
- A charged water hose must be out and available
- Fire must be attended at all times
- Allowed during daylight hours only
PERMITTED MATERIALS TO BURN: PROHIBITED MATERIALS:
- Yard debris • Rubber products • Plastics
- Natural vegetation • Tires • Garbage
- Untreated wood • Petroleum • Asphalt or industrial waste
- Paper products • Any materials that create dark smoke or noxious odors
RECREATIONAL BURN:
- Must be confined to fire rings that are a maximum of 3 feet in diameter. These shall be constructed of fire-resistant material such as rock, brick, concrete, etc.
- 15 feet of clearance around the fire pit and 10 feet above the fire pit are required
- A charged water hose must be out and available
- Fire must be attended at all times
- Only dry, seasoned firewood may be burned
- Allowed anytime
OPEN BURNS ARE PROHIBITED WITHIN THE CITY OF ASTORIA
- Burning regulations may be adjusted during fire season
- During fire season, burning will be allowed from dawn to 10:00am.

- All burning is prohibited during East wind and high-temperature events
Astoria Fire Department or Astoria Police Department can order the immediate extinguishment of any fire if it is determined that the smoke is offensive to occupants of surrounding property or is creating hazardous conditions.
