ASTORIA, OR, March 9 – The Astoria Parks, Recreation and Community Foundation announces that Buoy Beer Company is the new title sponsor for the 3rd annual Run on the River Half Marathon, 10K and 5K.
“Buoy Beer is excited to support and partner with the Foundation and Astoria’s parks department in their service to the community and dedication to keeping Astoria beautiful and fun,” says David Kroening, co-owner of Buoy Beer Company.
Registration is open for the Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k to be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 along the Columbia River on the Astoria Riverwalk Trail. All participants will receive complimentary lunch and a beverage from Buoy Beer Company. Participants will also receive a t-shirt and a glass medal created locally by Fernhill Glass Studio. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers of the half marathon.
Run on the River is a family friendly event for the local community and a unique destination race for runners from across the Northwest. Over 400 runners and walkers participated in last year’s event; more than double the participation of the year before. Due to the growing popularity registration this year has been capped at 600.
Additional sponsors include the Astoria Co-op Grocery and Van Dusen Beverages. Businesses interested in sponsoring this year’s event should contact the APRCF via email at info@astoriaparksfoundation.com. The proceeds from the race will go toward scholarship funds to help provide financial assistance to residents who may not be able to afford parks facilities.
“Our partnership with Buoy Beer, and all our Run on the River sponsors, supports our mission of creating partnerships, charitable opportunities, and funding for community, parks, open spaces, and recreational activities,” says Tracy Erfling, president of the APRCF.
Event pricing and online registration is available on the Astoria Parks and Recreation website at www.astoriaparks.com, click on Registration. Or go to http://www.astoriaparksclasses.com/adults/runontheriver.html.
