ASTORIA OR, October 4, 2017: On October 6th, Astoria Parks & Recreation will be hosting an open house with free admission at the Captain Gray’s Port of Play to celebrate the installation of its new inflatable bounce house. Donations from community members, organizations, and local businesses helped to raise over $3,000 to replace the original Oscar the Octopus inflatable that deflated earlier in the year.
“Our little ones at Lil’ Sprouts were very disappointed when Oscar broke. We knew we had to invest in a new inflatable and we were shocked by how many people stepped up to raise money to secure one.” Remarked, Parks Director, Angela Cosby. “Everyone from Lil Sprouts Parents, families, local businesses and organizations such as MOMS Club of Astoria all understood the need for an active indoor space for the children in this community. There just aren’t many options for indoor play and we are glad that we can provide this and more. I can’t wait to get in there and exercise my jumping legs!”
The new bounce house is much larger than the original bounce house, being 10 feet high, 15 feet long, and 26 feet wide. The deluxe inflatable funhouse has many ares to race, jump, and crawl along with having large slides and a climbing wall. When choosing a new inflatable, Parks staff hoped to find one that would provide the greatest opportunity for active play.
The party starts at 12:30pm with a short program. Astoria City Council Members and Astoria Parks and Recreation Board Members will be there to celebrate along with children and families to make their inaugural jumps into the funhouse, write a thank you note to donors, and partake in light snacks and refreshments.
