The City of Astoria’s transportation system includes approximately 55 miles of streets, nine bridges, and a chair wall system spanning about 6,500 feet that supports many of the streets in the downtown area. The City also maintains the waterfront trestle system, a concrete dock at the foot of 17th Street, and City-owned sidewalks and trails located within public rights-of-way.
The Public Works Streets Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the City’s transportation infrastructure, including roads, streets, street ends, bridges, sidewalks, and trails. Staff also install and maintain street signs and traffic signals, and perform routine roadway maintenance such as street sweeping, pavement repairs and patching, sanding, de-icing, and vegetation management along rights-of-way to help ensure safe and reliable transportation throughout the community.
