On 06/01/2025 at 9:18 AM Astoria Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a hit and run, vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash that occurred at 16th and Irving .
On arrival the pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene. The suspect fled the scene, striking another vehicle at 17th and Irving, and continued to flee South on 17th Street. An Officer located the suspect and their vehicle in the 1700 Block of Jerome Ave. where the suspect was taken into custody.
Oregon State Police Traffic crash reconstructionists are enroute to the scene, which involves approximately 5 blocks. People are asked to avoid the area of 16th and 17th between Grand and Jerome Ave which are closed or detoured pending the scene investigation. The Clatsop County Major Crimes Team has been activated to assist in the investigation. At this time the investigation remains fluid. Additional details will be released at a later time.
