Candidate Filing for City of Astoria Council Positions Opens Wednesday, June 3, 2026
The following positions on the Astoria City Council have terms expiring as of December 31, 2026. The election of candidates for these positions will be held at the November 3, 2026 general election. Candidates may file for these positions beginning on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Councilor, Ward 1
To file for this office, a person must be a resident of Astoria for the six months preceding November 3, 2026, must reside in Ward 1, and must be a registered voter. A person must also submit a petition signed by 14 registered voters living in Ward 1. There is no filing fee in lieu of a petition, but signature sheets must be signed by the Elections Office prior to circulation.
Councilor, Ward 3
To file for this office, a person must be a resident of Astoria for the six months preceding November 3, 2026, must reside in Ward 3, and must be a registered voter. A person must also submit a petition signed by 13 registered voters living in Ward 3. There is no filing fee in lieu of a petition, but signature sheets must be signed by the Elections Office prior to circulation.
Mayor
To file for this office, a person must be a resident of Astoria for the six months preceding November 3, 2026, must reside inside the city limits, and must be a registered voter. A person must also submit a petition signed by 48 registered voters living inside the city limits. There is no filing fee in lieu of a petition, but signature sheets must be signed by the Elections Office prior to circulation. Petition forms and other political candidate materials are available on the City Website or may be obtained at City Hall in the Finance Department, located at 1095 Duane Street, third floor.

Filing Deadlines
The filing deadlines have changed. Starting this year, elected incumbents must file by August 18, 2026 at 4:00 pm.
Other candidates and appointed incumbents must file by August 25th at 4:00 pm.
Please file early.
Clatsop County must verify signatures prior to that deadline. Filings that are submitted at the last minute might not have time for signature verification. No late filings may be accepted. If you file too late for signature verification your name will not appear on the ballot.
